Snap And Submit Tips and Best Practices

At PostGhost, we strive to provide you with the most effective tools to reduce your junk mail. Our mobile application (currently in development) allows you to take a more personalized approach to opting-out from unwanted mail by simply snapping a picture of the mail you no longer wish to receive and submitting it to us. Here are some tips and best practices to help you make the most of this feature.

How Snap and Submit Works

Though our mobile app is currently in development you can still take advantage of this feature by simply texting us images of any unwanted mail. Below are some best practices to ensure the best results:

  1. Snap a picture of the mail you no longer wish to receive.
  2. Text the image to us at (720) 310-0146. Add us to your contacts as “Post Ghost 👻” to make it easy to remember!
  3. In the future our mobile application will simplify this process by allowing you to snap and submit directly through the app.
  4. Our system will process the image and initiate the opt-out request for you.

Best Practices for Snap and Submit

To ensure the best results when using our Snap and Submit feature, follow these best practices:

DO

  • Submit Only One Image at a Time: Send one image per submission to ensure clarity and accuracy.
  • Include Necessary Information: Make sure the image includes both the company and sender’s name and information as well as the recipient’s name and address.
  • Ensure Clarity: The logo, sender, and recipient information should be clear and easy to read.
  • Lay Mail Flat: Place the mail flat on a table and stand directly over it when taking the picture.
  • Good Lighting: Ensure the mail is well-lit to avoid shadows and ensure all text is visible.

DON’T

  • Avoid Multiple Items in One Image: Don’t submit images with multiple pieces of mail as it can cause confusion and delays in processing.
  • Avoid Blurry Images: Ensure the image is not blurry. Blurry images can prevent our system from accurately reading the necessary information.
  • Don’t Obscure Information: Make sure no part of the mail is obscured or covered. All relevant details must be visible for accurate processing.

Important Considerations

While our Snap and Submit feature is highly effective, there are some limitations to be aware of:

  • Transactional Mail: Just because mail isn’t considered junk doesn’t mean you want it. We can help you opt out of catalogs and brochures from companies you may have interacted with, but transactional mail such as account statements and billing notices from companies you do business with (e.g., banks or retailers) cannot be opted out through this feature.
  • Legal and Required Notices: Mail that is legally required to be sent to you, such as government notices, tax documents, and legal notifications, cannot be opted out using PostGhost.
  • Current Resident Mail: Opting out of mail addressed to “Current Resident” can be particularly challenging. This type of mail is often distributed based on geographical location rather than specific individual addresses, making it part of the USPS’s Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) service. EDDM targets every mailbox in a given area, so opting out on an individual basis is not typically feasible. However, some larger companies and organizations might honor your opt-out request and add your address to their mail suppression lists, reducing the amount of such mail you receive.

We will make every effort to opt you out of additional types of mail, even if they aren’t strictly junk mail. However, we cannot guarantee that every organization will honor the request. If you continue to receive mail from an organization after requesting an opt-out, please email our support team at opt-out@postghost.io.

By following these tips and best practices, you can make the most of our Snap and Submit feature, reducing unwanted mail and contributing to a clutter-free mailbox.
